Hammer & Pickle win another Sketch Battle title!
On Saturday, July 27th, three new challengers entered the ring to face off in another Sketch Battle, hosted by Jeremy Sheer (Sad Boys Social Club, Roast Battle Cleveland).
The troupes: Sloppy Jane (Cam Godfrey & Justin Golak), Hammer and Pickle (Saber Melendez & Tahm Lytle), Kidney+ (Frank Perri, Tom Horsfall, Joe Kirincic, & Taliana Bosio). We also saw an opening sketch written by Adam Sheetz of Meat Cute and performed by Jeremy Sheer and Travis Williams.
The prompts: DANGER, As Seen on TV, and Frivolous Lawsuit
The winner: Hammer & Pickle
The laughs: endless.
These three prompts inspired nine unique sketches about relationships, politics, sex, religion, squirt, pee, all the big ones.
SNL, I Think You Should Leave, Key & Peele, MADTV, The Kids in The Hall, The State, Mr. Show, All That, and Aunty Donna have NOTHING on Cleveland’s local live sketch comedy scene! (Okay, that’s a big statement, but it let me use all of those sketch comedy show names in a sentence, which optimizes something I think.)
You can take sketch comedy writing classes at our Ohio City venue with Michael Busch (UCB) and Gregory James (Edinburgh Fringe Fest) beginning in September. Learn more here.
You can submit to compete in the Sketch Battle sketch comedy competition and view other sketch and improv comedy performance and competition opportunities like Rough Draft (sketch comedy open mic) and Improv Death Match (friendly indie improv team competition) here.
